Critical Race Theory is a theoretical framework in the social sciences that examines society and culture as they relate to categorizations of race, law, and power. It is analytical lens that examines existing power structures. Critical Race Theory identifies that these power structures are based on white privilege and white supremacy, which perpetuates the marginalization of people of colour.

Today I saw a video of Trump giving a speech, wherein he has deemed Critical Race Theory to be a "Marxist doctrine” threatening America’s core values. He plans to remove it from being taught at schools and taught in certain workplaces which require racial sensitivity training. I feel this is a terrifying prospect for the future. I don’t know if there is precedent for this happening before during Trump’s last four years, but this is the clearest sign I’ve seen yet of Trump suppressing an important area of historical critical thinking around America’s relationship with racism, oppression and white supremacy. I can’t help thinking of the images of the Nazi Book Burning of the 1930s.
